BI Services

Practical help for your BI team

Anari has a range of ways that we have helped blue chip companies to deal with peaks and troughs in BI demand. Although we love to be engaged to define, develop and deliver full end-to-end BI solutions, we are equally happy to work with you as part of your wider team.

bi-services

There are a number of ways that we can top up your existing capability.

Our Business Analysts and Lead Consultants can work with you on analysing the BI needs of your business, and turning this into a robust, well-thought-through, high value BI solution definition. Our Technical Consultants can top up your own BI team to accelerate delivery, or to add expertise that your team does not currently have.

If you need someone in post to become your temporary Technical Design Authority or Head of BI then you can trust our senior managers to fulfil that role for you on an Interim basis.

The BI solution developed can be managed by Anari. If it is a Big Data solution, then you can use our high-speed data warehouse on a Software as a Service basis.

You can read more about our key BI services below:

Business analysis – when your stakeholder is not being 100% clear about their requirements; or when your team is having a hard time logically modelling the desired BI outputs, then it’s a good time to get some specialist business analysis (BA) resource on-board. Our BAs are realists not theorists. They can use formal techniques such as UML and Traceability Matrices but they also use well-honed customer-facing skills to tease out requirements that are often difficult to articulate and define.

They are particularly good at stakeholder expectation management, defining only what is possible; and they will challenge and highlight what is not going to be practical, and give sound business reasons why that is the case.

Solution definition – when the requirement is broader, and you are looking for a complete BI solution to be defined, designed and developed, then having a team of multi-skilled BI practitioners is vital to the project’s success. At the very beginning you will need a blend of business and technical skills.

From the business side you will need to capture business requirements and model them using process flows, data mapping and timeline diagrams to ensure a good logical design that has 100% data coverage. Outputs need to be clearly defined in report specifications which include details of data ownership, data sources, users, schedules, triggers and contents.

From the technical side the logical model needs to be converted into a high-level physical design taking into account the existing and ‘to-be’ BI technology stack. Decisions on whether a data-mart or data warehouse is required need to be made. What technologies are right for the solution will need to be determined, along with whether integration with data sources is to be tightly or loosely coupled.

BI/DW consultancy – sometimes you just need some help to support your own team. Our technical consultants are skilled in a whole range of database technologies, and associated data-mart/data-warehouse methodologies. From open source databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL; the Microsoft MSSQL suite; to high-speed databases such as Oracle; and even big data platforms such as Sybase IQ and Netezza. In terms of BI tools our team works with a range of products such as SAP BusinessObjects, Microsoft SSRS, Oracle OBIEE and more modern web-based tools such as Jaspersoft.

Whether you are looking for a Lead Consultant to coach your team, or top-up resources that are hands-on and can help your project over the line, Anari consultants can help you deliver better BI solutions to your business.

Interim positions – recruiting a new Head of BI or an Enterprise Architect is not easy, and can be particularly difficult if you have ongoing projects to deliver. We can provide an experienced, senior consultant who has held those positions in other large organisations on an Interim basis. This is especially useful in situations where you want to carry out delicate re-organisation, either business or technical, whilst still maintaining momentum on delivering BI solutions.

We only put our most senior people into your team as an Interim, so you can be assured that you will get someone who can step in straight away and make a difference.

Managed services – once you have your BI solution developed, you may be in a position to look after its operation yourselves. Alternatively you might prefer to let us manage the solution on your behalf in our secure Tier 4-designed data centres. We can carry out operational activities such as load management, user access, dealing with quarantined data, configuration changes and BI report and data export development.

With someone else looking after the day-to-day running of your BI solution, your team is free to focus on what matters – exploiting the intelligence that is delivered.

Big data – within our Tier 4-designed data centres we have invested in two extremely high-speed data warehousing appliances from IBM. Our Production environment uses the N2002 system which delivers 128 GB/second effective scan rate, contains 32 CPU cores, 32 FGPA cores and 32Tb of compressed storage. It can be expanded to 8x the current processing and storage capability as our customer base increases without the need for further racks.

Imagine what you could do with that sort of processing power. We can put your big data BI solution on our Netezza platform, offering you super-computing power at a fraction of the cost of making your own investment.
